1 item (enclosure to Henry Layard's despatch no 720 of 5 June 1878) extracted from FO 78/2790. Turkey: Bolayir. 'Survey of Defensive Position near Bulair shewing the Lines constructed by the Anglo-French Army in 1855 ...'. Also shows contours, rivers, place names, forts, communications etc. Compass indicator. Inset: 'Outline Sketch of the Lines of Boulair from Boulair Cemetery'. Sketched December 1876 by [G.A.] Cockburn, Lt RE, and [Herbert] Chermside, Lt RE, under the direction of R. Home, Lt Col, and on instructions from Sir Lintorn Simmons, Lt Gen, IGF. Lithographed at the Intelligence Branch, QMG's Department, Feb 1877. Signed by T. Fraser, Capt RE. Signed by J.C. Fife, Capt, Military Attaché, Gallipoli, 1 June 1878. MS additions show position of advanced works, June 1878. A pencilled note reads: 'To be reduced - wanted early. 150 copies.'
