This series consists of the minutes, and memoranda of the Imperial Communications Committee (ICC) of the Committee of Imperial Defence (CID), and of the minutes, reports and papers of the committees and sub-committees appointed by the ICC.
The ICC was concerned with the establishment of wireless stations in Great Britain and in the colonies; with wireless transmission, international regulation, code and cyphers, and all issues concerned with cabling.

The Imperial Communications Committee of the Committee of Imperial Defence was established in 1919 upon a decision of the War Cabinet. Its members included representatives from the Air Ministry, War Office, Admiralty, Signals, Foreign Office, Colonial Office, India Office, Board of Trade and General Post Office.
These papers were circulated to members of the Cabinet, the CID, to members of the relevant committees or sub-committees, to representatives of the War Office and to other officials who needed to be kept informed.
