United States of America, Alaska: Bering Sea and Strait. Chart from the Russian Marine Ministry of the North Pacific and Arctic Oceans showing the Chukotsky Peninsula and the Bering Straits, in addition to the North American coastline as far south as California. Scale: 1 inch to about 140 miles. Engraved at the Hydrographic Department in 1844 and revised to 1866. Manuscript notes made by the Foreign Office: 'This chart was sent from the British Ambassador at St. Petersburg to the Foreign Office in 1867. [Enclosure R in the Hydrographer's Report dated 26th March 1886].' A hand-written note marks the boundary of Alaska as established by the treaty of 1825 between Britain and Russia. Stamped by the Admiralty Hydrographic Office, 15 November 1886.
