Map showing areas and populations of states,distances between principal towns,forts and arsenals, 'Slave States showing those seceded'; population 1860 by counties within states. Title around a representation of a bust of Washington within an oval plaque. Tables of explanation. Scale: 1 inch to about 48 miles. Circular diagram with view of National Observatory in centre showing time at principal towns in Union when noon at Washington; diagram of relative church accommodations of various religious denominations; trans-continental profiles and diagrams showing comparative heights of mountains and waterfalls. Decorative border, with flowers, fruit and foliage, and portraits of the Presidents in circular frames. Insets: four maps showing geology, climate, zoology, and distribution of staples, trees and plants; eastern and western hemispheres; views of Mount Vernon, the Capitol, the Washington Monument and the city of New York.
