Description

Map of Hampshire, with the Isle of Wight. In rococo cartouche, dedication to 572 noblemen and gentlemen by Isaac Taylor, 20 August 1759. At the base of the cartouche stands a warrior in Roman dress with Britannia seated, naval and military accoutrements, and a view of coast and ships. Reference tables. Scale: 1 inch to 1 mile, in an elaborate rococo structure with six putti. Nine pictorial insets in rococo frames. Soundings. Compass indicator. R Benning, engraver. With unexplained manuscript additions.
