Map of area now in Belgium, France, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany: 26 sheets, bound in volume 57 cm x 56 cm. 'Carte Chorographique des Pays-Bas Autrichiens ..'.. Title surrounded by putti holding the arms of the provinces of the Austrian Netherlands. Map shows place names, forts, churches, bishoprics, abbeys, convents, castles, houses, mills, battlefields, waterways, roads, mines, forges, boundaries. Reference table. Scale: 27 cm to 12,000 toises. Two other scale bars; all surrounded by putti, drawn by C H Cochin the younger and engraved by B A Nicollet. Detailed notes on the composition of the map, surmounted by the Imperial eagle. Index sheet. Cardinal points. Dedicated to the Emperor and Empress of Austria by Count Ferraris, Lieutenant-General. Based on the 'Carte de France'. Engraved by L A Dupuis, geographer to Duke Charles Alexandre of Lorraine and Le Bar, 1777. There are two major insets. (1) 'Carte générale Qui comprend la Situation des principaux Objets qui ont servi de fondemt. à la description Géomque des Provinces Autrichiennes dans les Pays Bas y compris les Principautés de Liege et de Stavelo 1777'. Scale: 9 cm to 20,000 toises. A lengthy avertissement follows the title. (2) 'Plan topographique de la Ville de Bruxelles et de ses Environs'. Scale: 6 cm to 150 toises. Frontispiece, drawn by Eisen and engraved by Patas, illustrates the presentation of a map of France to Emperor Joseph II, 10 December 1777.
