Europe, central and west: maps. `Neue und vollstaendige Postkarte durch ganz Deutschland und durch die angränzenden Theile der benachbarten Länder ... ausgefertiget und ... herausgegeben von denen Homænnischen Erben in Nürnberg, 1786': booklet comprising 16 sheets and index map. Title also in French. Shows Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, north-eastern France, Switzerland, northern Italy, Austria, Czech areas, western Poland. Titles, reference tables and scale in ornate cartouches decorated with flowers. Reference tables in French and German to towns with halting places, post routes, palaces, Imperial towns and universities. Dedication to Carl Anselm, Prince of the Holy Roman Empire, Prince of Thurn and Taxis, in ornate cartouche surmounted by the Imperial shield set in forest glade, flanked by Mercury (a heap of letters at his side) and by a herald on horseback. Scale: 1 inch to 20 miles (10 cm to 20 German miles). Each sheet about 23 cm x 19 cm. Engraved by I M Schmidt. In manuscript on inside page of booklet: `Thomas Hislop, Captain. 39th Foot, April 19th 1789' [later Sir Thomas Hislop].
