Map on 30 sheets of Europe, west, central and south-east. 'Carte Générale Du Théâtre de la Guerre en Italie et dans Les Alpes Depuis le passage du Var le 29 7bre 1792 V.S. jusqu'a l'entrée des francais à Rome le 22 pluviose an 6me Répain [Jan-Feb 1798] avec les limites et divisions des nouvelles Républiques Par Bacler Dalbe Capitaine de canonniers attaché pendant toute la guerre au Gal Bonaparte en qualité de chef de son Beau Topographique'. Maps show topographical features, waterways, mines, mineral deposits, roads, boundaries, place names; location of military units, fortifications, artillery, general headquarters, battles in area between 5° 30' and 16°30'W and between 48°15' and 41°15'N. Also showing movements of units commanded by Massena, Augereau, Sérurier, La Harpe, Vaubois, Sauret, Joubert, Victor, Bernadotte and Berthier. Reference table. Table of latitude and longitude of major towns. Title on drapery hung over pedestal surmounted by flags of the Republic, wreaths of laurel, oak and ivy, plumes, swords, spears, pikes, halbards. To the right of the title is a book held open by a [lion's] paw, revealing the words 'Pax tibi Marce Evangel meus'. A central plate bears a picture entitled 'Les peuples d'Italie rendus, à la liberté et à la verité'; drawn by Dalbe and engraved by Mantelle. To the left of the plate is a tablet listing the achievements of the Republican army; to the right is another, enumerating the prisoners, weapons, vessels seized by the Republicans. Detailed notes on sources on drapery in upper left corner. Historical synopsis of French Republican campaigns 1792-1797. Scale: 43.5 cm to 24 common French leagues. Compass rose. Engraved by Bordiga brothers. Published at Milan by the author, Director of the Dépôt de la Guerre, 6th year of the Republic. According to the Dictionnaire de Biographie Française, Bacler d'Albe was capitaine de canonniers between October 1793 and March 1794. According to David G Chandler, Dictionary of the Napoleonic Wars, he became chief of Napoleon's topographical office in the Bureau Topographique on 23 September 1804.
