Italy: map. 'Carta Topografica del Regno Lombardo-Veneto construitta sopre misure astronomico-trigonometriche ed incisa a Milano nell'Istituto Geografico Militare dell'I.R, Stato Maggiore Generale Austriaco. Pubblicata nell'Anno 1833'. Twenty sheets, each consisting of two sheets joined. Topographical map showing terrain, mineral deposits, towns by size, major buildings, railways, boundaries. In centre of title sheet is a laurel-wreathed bust of 'F I [Franz Imperator]' on a plinth decorated with the arms of Lombardy and Venice and the chain of the Order of the Golden Fleece. It is surrounded by military accoutrements, flags and banners bearing the arms of Austria, a sketch map of the area of northern Italy concerned, surveyors' instruments. A putto stands behind the bust. Key to conventional signs. Tabulated information about trigonometric points, political divisions, educational and charitable provisions, communications. Detailed notes on the Lagoon of Venice. Decorative border. Scale bars in Austrian post miles, Italian miles and geographical miles. Drawn and engraved at the Militär-Geografisches Institut of the Austrian Quarter Master General's Department, Milan, 1933. This may be the map on which FO 925/3615 was based. Dimensions: each sheet 88 cm x 77 cm; two separate sheets, each of 41 cm x 70 cm.
