Area from western entrance to Cape Nagara surveyed by Commander T Graves, Royal Navy, 1840, and Captain T A B Spratt, Royal Navy, 1855; from Nagara to Gallipoli by Commander W J L Wharton, J Navigating Lieutenant Millard and C H C Langdon, Lieutenants C J Fellowes and W U Moore, and P H Wright, Navigating Sub Lieutenants A Havergal and E P Chapman, HMS Shearwater, 1872; the Narrows by Spratt, assisted by Lieutenant A L Mansell, J Stokes, Master, G R Wilkinson, Acting Mate, and E W Brooker, Second Master, 1855.
