Romania: chart of the Danube River: 'Cours du Danube depuis Roustchouk jusqu'à son embouchure'. Scale: 20.6 cm to 56 versts. Enclosed in memorandum 'On the Map of the Mouths of the Danube inclosed in Durham's Despatch No 29 of 1835' (see FO 65/218), stating that the map was compiled '... in the hope of concealing or disguising the importance of the proceedings of Russia with respect to the Sulina Channel ...'. Also shows details of inaccuracies. The name J[ohn] Backhouse [Under-Secretary at the Foreign Office] is pencilled on the back page of the memorandum.
