Turkey: Istanbul province Three maps: (1) 'Reconnaissance of the Defensive Position between the Sea of Marmora and Black Sea. Covering Constantinople from the westward': terrain, contours, rivers, roads, proposed railway and tramway, place names, fortifications; works proposed by Captain T Fraser, Royal Engineers. Table of distances from Constantinople railway terminus. Scale: 1:31,680. Compass indicator. Dimensions: 168.5 cm x 83.5 cm. Made by order of HRH The Field Marshal Commanding in Chief [the Duke of Cambridge] and on instructions issued by Lieutenant General Sir Lintorn Simmons, Royal Engineers, KCB, IGF. Sketched October and November 1876 under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel R Home, Royal Engineers, CB, AQMG, by Captain [J C] Ardagh, Royal Engineers, DAMQG, Lieutenant Cockburn and Lieutenant [H] Chermside, Royal Engineers. (2) 'Finger Sketch Shewing Water Shed between the Seas': contour map showing defence works between Urzunlu [near Büyükcekmece] and Lake Derkous [Terkos]. Scale: 6 inches to 6 miles. Compass indicator. Dimensions: 18.5 cm x 25 cm. (Sgnd) T Fraser. (3) Plans and sections of redoubts and other defence works numbered on (1) and (2). Scale: most 1:1,980; also 1:3,960 and 1:990.
