Two United States Coast Survey charts of the west coast of America: 'Reconnaissance of the Western Coast of the United States ...'.. By the Hydrographic Party under the command of Lieutenant James Alden, USN Assistant. Geographical positions by G Davidson, Assistant. (Map 1) Chart showing parts of Washington and Oregon: '(Northern Sheet) from Umpquah River to the Boundary'. With 8 views of the coast. Scale: about 1 inch to 19.5 miles. Compass roses. Map drawn for engraving by W B McMurtrie. (Map 2) Chart showing parts of California and Oregon: '(Middle Sheet) from San Francisco to Umpquah River'. With twelve views of the coastline. Scale: 1 inch to about 20 miles. Compass indicators. Sailing directions, tide table, table of geographical positions of places on the coast. Surveyed under the superintendence of A D Bache: B McMurtrie's drawing reduced by A Lindenkohl. Electrotype copy of the engraving by G McCoy, J Knight, J L Hazzard and G B Metzeroth.
