United States of America, Central America, West Indies. 'Monk's New American Map ... Compiled from recent Government surveys and other authentic sources ...'. Shows cities, roads, railways, steamship routes, state and province boundaries. Decorative border of leaves, flowers and scrollwork, at each corner of which medallions enclose views of President's House, Washington; the Capitol with the new extension; Washington; Smithsonian Institute, Washington; and Independence Hall, Philadelphia. Key to symbols; table of distances; population table; table of names of counties and county towns in each state; table of distances of routes surveyed for a railway from Mississippi to the Pacific. Scale: 1 inch to 50 miles. Inset map of the world, showing communications with America and the routes of the United States exploring expedition, 1840-1842.
