Venezuela: physical and political atlas. 'Atlas Fisico y Politico de la Republica de Venezuela dedicado ... el Coronel de Ingenieres Augustin Codazzi al Congresso Constituyente de 1830. Caracas 1840'. The atlas contains: a map of the world, a map of South America, three maps of Venezuela and surrounding countries and twenty-six maps of Venezuela, its provinces and cantons. A plate gives statistical tables of population, high land, lengths of rivers, by provinces. An introduction also gives statistical information. Title set in a view of a bay with tropical vegetation, a horse, jaguar, turtle, crocodile and flamingos. A girl in the foreground leans on a copy of the Venezuelan constitution and a shield bearing the coat of arms; beside her a tablet commemorating independence and a cannon, weapons, uniform and a scroll draped with flags. The maps are lithographed by Thierry frères, Paris. Printer: H Fournier and Co, Paris. A note of 20 August 1887 records that the atlas was received from Sir James Fergusson, who bought it from Dr Ernst, Caracas, February 1887.
