Description

'Map of Central America, shewing the different lines of Atlantic and Pacific Communication by James Wyld'. Shows proposed routes: from San Juan del Norte Realejo, from San Juan del Norte to San Juan del Sur, from Chagres to Panama across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. Sections through these routes and section through the River Colorado. Scale: 1 inch to 48 miles. Key to distances. Inset geological map of the area round the Chagres-Panama route. Scale: 1 inch to 5.5 miles. 1852 edition of map published in 1850. Manuscript additions show land grants and mahogany-cutting rights in Mosquitia, and the route of the ship Elizabeth between Jamaica and Cape Gracias. By James Wyld, 1850.
