Area in South Africa, Natal. Map of Isandhlwana and district. 'Military survey of the country around Isandhlwana'. The map shows contours and altitudes, the valley in which the Zulu army bivouacked on the night of 21-22 January [1879], the site of Major Dartnell's bivouac the same night, and the graves of Lieutenants Melvill and Coghill. Reference table. Compass indicator. Drawn by Lieutenant C Penrose, Royal Engineers and (Signed) Captain T H Anstey, Royal Engineers, 13 November 1879. Lithographed at the Intelligence Branch, Quarter Master General's Department, January 1880.
