'Africa ... Auctor L S de la Rochette 1783': the map has many historical notes and a marginal manuscript note (possibly c. 1820) on Portuguese and Spanish engagement in the slave trade on the west coast of Africa. Title in a circular cartouche enclosing a draped reclining female figure, wearing an ostrich hat and holding a lobster and a cornucopia, with a basket containing produce at her feet. Scale: 1 inch to about 275 miles. Published 25 April 1803 by William Faden, Charing Cross, London.
