Description (What the record is about)

Nigeria: Niger River. Map in 20 sheets; sketch maps of the River Niger, showing its configuration, islands, and villages on its banks. The two principal towns shown are Idah and Onitsha. The sheets are dated between 31 May and 8 June 1874. They are numbered and, if brought together, might make a survey of a continuous stretch of the river. Most of the sheets are stamped in red 'Robert Capper 4:xi:84'. Dimensions: fifteen sheets each about 33 cm x 21 cm and five sheets each about 42 cm x 33 cm.
