North-east Africa. 'Carta d'Insieme, per gli itinerari della seconda spedizione Bottego (1895-1897)'. Map shows routes of Vittorio Bottego's first journey (1891-1892) and second journey (1895-1897) through north-east Africa. Also shows roads and mountains. Reference table. Prepared by A Dardano. Published by L Vannutelli and C Citerni. The Italian pioneers, Bottego and Ugo Ferrandi, reached and occupied Lugh (Somalia) in 1895 after Ethiopian raiding parties had attacked local Somali clans there. Bottego continued his trek towards Lake Rudolf and then to Shoa (Ethiopia) where he was killed.
