Gibraltar: map of the peninsula, showing dockyard, fortifications, buildings, proposed wall to keep the Old Mole from silting up, cliffs and rocks in perspective. Reference tables. Scale: 9.5 inches to 1600 feet. Compass star. The reference table includes a mention of 'St Michael's Cave where some Spaniards in the last Siege hid themselves two days ... '. That incident is generally dated to 1704, though some authorities disagree: see John Drinkwater, A History of the Siege of Gibraltar (London, 1850); Sayer, The History of Gibraltar (London, 1862); and George Hills, Rock of Contention (London, 1974).
