Chancery: Petty Bag Office: Certiorari Bundles

Writs of certiorari for the removal of acts of Parliament into Chancery, made out by the clerks of the Petty Bag.

The writs were sent to the clerk of the Parliament who returned the transcripts. The acts were then exemplified under the great seal, filed in the Petty Bag Office, and were available to be received in evidence in any court of judicature.

As well public and private parliamentary acts and ordinances, a limited number of other records brought into Chancery upon writ of certiorari are also included. Among them are copies of parliamentary proceedings, an order of the House of Commons from 1676, a writ of 1648 imposing a fine for contempt, and various enrolments, including that of the attainder of Sir Walter Raleigh.
