The mayor, aldermen, burgesses, and commonalty of the burgh of Great Yarmouth. v. John Andrews, merchant.: Town or burgh of Great Yarmouth (Norfolk), which is stated to "have been incorporated by King John in the ninth year of his reign as this deponent hath seen by the charter for that purpose granted, and from that time the said corporation has annually paid to the Crown the yearly sume of fifty-five pounds, which sume appears by the said charter to be reserved therein, and also hath paid to the Crown the further sume of five pounds per annum ever since the fortieth-sixth year of the reign of King Edward the Third, for he hath seen a charter granted to the said town in the forty-sixth year of the reign of King Edward the Third, wherein the said annual sume of five pounds is also reserved to the Crown, and this deponent hath also seen regular entrys of the payment thereof in the audit books of the said town. And for thirty years last past and upwards the said annual sume of fifty-five pounds have been constantly paid and allowed by the said town." Usages and customs in the town or burgh relating to the herring fishery, which is the principal part of the trade there. "Whether there has been a custom or usage for ye fishermen who during ye herring season have fished and do fish for herrings on ye said coast of Norff near ye sd town of Yarmth to bring in ye herrings so caught by them into ye port or haven of Great Yarmouth in northern boats or cobles and also in western boats or barks, and so soon as he or they have or do first come into ye sd port or haven for ye fishing season voluntarily to host him or themselves to any and what p'son or p'sons, and must such p'son or p'sons be a burgess or freeman of ye sd burgh or town"? If there be such custom and usage, is such fisherman at liberty by such custom and usage to choose such burgess or freeman to be his or their host or hostler, mercht or trader, as he shall best approve of and agree with. When such fisherman host themselves to any p'son or p'sons hath such host, hostler, mercht, or trader always time out of mind or from wt time been a burgess or freeman of the sd burgh or town, and doth ye sd custom prevail whether such burgess or freeman have been part owners of such boats or barks, and may any other p'son or p'sons by ye sd custom act and trade as such host or hostler or only ye freemen or burgesses of ye sd town or burgh? &c., &c. Also touching the customs regulating the sale and price of herrings in the town or burgh. Rights and privileges of the corporation. Fees to officers of corporation, &c., &c.
