Arthur Shepherd, gent. v. Charles Whinyates, Stephen Ramm.: Office of Richmond Herald-at-Arms. Touching the nomination of defendant Whinyates to, and alleged purchase by him of the office of Richmond Herald-at-Arms, vacant by the death of Robert Dale, esquire. The Right Hon. Henry Bowes, Earl of Berks, Deputy Earl Marshal of England (the only deponent), to whom the now plaintiff Arthur Shepherd was secretary, states in his evidence that he was given to understand that the said office was in his gift and nomination and saleable by him, and that for his the said Deputy Earl Marshal's warrant of nomination to said office of Richmond Herald-at-Arms, the said defendant Whinyates paid the sum of 250l. to Mr. Seamer, the said Earl's banker or goldsmith, &c., &c. [The name of Prudence Dale, widow and relict of the said Robert Dale, Esq., late Richmond Herald-at-Arms, is mentioned.]: Wilts
