Description

Wm. Downes, clerk, rector of the parish church of Bonchurch, with the chapel of Shinckling alias Shanckling, in the Isle of Wight, in the diocese of Winchester, in the county of Southampton. v. Marian Rolfe, widow: Rectory and parsonage and parish of Bonchurch "alis St. Boniface," with the chapelry of Shinckling alias Shanckling thereto belonging, and a farm in said parish called "Livecombe" alias "Luccombe," occupied by Thos. Mooreman and the defendant. One witness (for the defendant) states that he never heard that the said farme and lands ...... did ever belong to any dissolved abbey or monastery, but hath heard that it did formerly belong to St. Nicholas, which is within the walls of Carisbrooke Castle, in the Isle of Wight. ..... And another deponent "saith that he hath heard that the farme and lands menc'oned did belong to the dissolved Abbey of Quarre, in the county of Southampton ...... and further saith that the said farme and lands hath been always reputed to be tythe free and never subject to the payment of any manner of tythes," &c., &c. Tithes.: Southampton.
