Description

Short title: Heron v Hussey.

Plaintiff(s): Sir Henry Heron, K.B. [who is said to derive his right and title to the manor of Heckington from the Rt Hon Frances Lady Cobham, deceased, widow of Sir John Cobham], Edward Holland, Edward Broughton, Arthur Spakeman, John Hopkin alias Hopkins, Robert Fox.

Defendant(s): Sir Edward Hussey, bart Sir John Brownlow, bart Richard Saul, John Booth.

Subject of depositions: Manor of Heckington, and the inclosed ground within such manor called the Six Hundred Acres, and the Great Fen in the manor, called Kington Fen, formerly belonging to Sir John Brooke, "sometime before his death called Lord Cobham." Metes and bounds. Common of pasture, etc. Also touching the manor of Burton Pedwardine and "The Locktons." Touching articles of agreement (dated 13 and 17 Charles 1) between Sir John Brooke and the freeholders of such manor, by virtue of which the lord of the manor claims to hold such six hundred acres in severaltie (ever since the 13th year), freed from all commons and claims from the freeholders. [An engine is mentioned, used "by the space of nine years" for "dreyning and casting the water out of said 600 acres, which cost £150 and that to keep the engine and maintaine the banks appertaining to said 606 acres doth yearly cost the said Sir Henry Heron twenty pounds p'annu' at the least, as this depont, who for four years together kept the said engine, dothe verily believe; and this depont further saith that he hath heard there was an engine burnt upon the said six hundred acres before the present engine was erected" etc;].
