Description

Short title: Sawyer v Clopton.

Plaintiff(s): Sir Robert Sawyer, kt (Attorney General).

Defendant(s): Walter Clopton, Martha Clopton, widow, executors of the last will and testament of Isaac late Bishop of Saint Asaph.

Subject of depositions: Last will and testament of Dr Isaac Barrow, late Bishop of St Asaph, and formerly Bishop of the Isle of Man. Touching his numerous charities, and whether it was his intention to build and endow a free school at St Asaph, and his expressed wish that his successors should do so. [Dr. Barrow was brother of defendant Martha].

County/place: Montgomeryshire.

Date of commission: 10 November 1685.

Additional information: interrogatories and depositions taken 20 January 1686 at Rysnant.
