Description

Short title: Attorney General v Whitley.

Plaintiff(s): Sir Robert Sawyer, kt (Attorney General).

Defendant(s): Roger Whitley, one of the defendants.

Subject of depositions: Sending away and receipt of letters by members of the British Parliament "during the times of priviledge of Parliament" (between 24 June 1672 and 24 June 1677). "Letters Frankt." Single letters. Value. Postage. 17th interrogatory. "Was it usual and frequent dureing the severall sessions of the then Parliamt (between 24 June 1672 and 24 June 1677) to write copies of the votes, addresses, and other papers brought into or ordered or voted by that Parlt. for the members thereof to send by post into their severall countyes, cittyes, and burroughes, and do you know or believe many of the same were accordingly sent in that time, and do you or any other, and who to your knowledge or beleife frequently send such in that time to absent members of that Parlt?" Answer to such interrogatory made by Sir Henry Puckering alias Newton of the Priory near Warwick, bart "To the seventeenth interr' this depon't sayeth that he believeth itt was usuall and frequently done by sev'all members of the then Parliamt (between 24 June 1672 and 24 June 1677) to write coppyes of the votes, addresses, or other pap's brought into or ordered or voted by that Parliamt. to send the same by post into their sev'all countyes and burrouges, the which this depon't is induced to believe, for that he hath seen sev'all p'sons writing the votes or other papers at two or three tables in the Speaker's Chamber upon post nights" etc.
