Description

Short title: Pechey v Chicheley.

Plaintiff(s): Richard Pechey, Thomas Trowell, Thomas Wilkyn, William Hills, Robert Pechey, Robert Norfolke, John Pechey, Edward Staples, John Lyles, John Chambers, the elder, Robert Clark, Henry Genne, Robert Brand, Robert Hills, John Cropley, James Hills, James Norfolk, John Hills, Samuel Nethercoate, Edward Cropley, James Finch, Robert Richardson, Henry Banham, Edward Pechey, John Chambers, the younger, Peter Wainford and others, inhabitants of Soham (Cambridgeshire).

Defendant(s): Sir Thomas Chicheley, kt, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, one of His Majesty's Most Honble. Privy Council, lord of the manor of Soham.

Subject of depositions: Manor of Soham and the wastes and commons belonging. Touching a former suit prosecuted by the defendant as Thomas Chicheley, esq, (then and yett lord of the manor of Soham), against the then tenants, owners, and com'oners of the town of Soham concerning wastes and commons, and an agreement made between defendant (by the name of Thomas Chicheley, esq,), of the one part, and Benjamin. Lyles, Thomas Power, John Power, and Martin Chambers on behalf of themselves and others of the other part, about settling and ending said suit and differences; which agreement was said to have been confirmed by a decree of the Court of Exchequer made about 8 February 1658. Touching the grounds (waste) set forth and decreed to the defendant's predecessor Sir Robert Heath (by the Commissioners appointed by Act of Parliament for settling the draining of the Great Level of the fenns called Bedford Levell), and to other lords of manors adjoining. Division, award, and allotment of commons (made by defendant and Sir Jonas Moore) amongst the tenants and com'oners of Soham. Alleged breach of award committed by defendant in taking possession of certain parts of waste.
