Defendant(s): John Washington, one of the defendants.
Subject of depositions: Honor and town of Penreth, in Cumberland. Touching the officer or farmer of the "Metlaw and Weightlaw" and the payment to him of tolls, duties, or customs for goods sold in the shops in that town, and in the fairs and markets held in Penreth. Particularly touching a payment of "fourpence by the horseload, due and payable to the lessee or him that exerciseth and holdeth said office for every horse-load of iron that is sold or bought within said town, markets, or fairs of Penreth aforesaid, to be paid by him that selleth such iron." Whether 4d. per horse-load is due and payable as well by inhabitants of the town as by foreigners? etc. Customs of honor, etc.
