Description

Short title: Garway v Bennett.

Plaintiff(s): Sir William Garway, kt, Sir Nicholas Salter, kt.

Defendant(s): Dorothy Bennett, Sir Humphrey May, kt, Chancellor of His Majesty's Court of Duchy [of Lancaster].

Subject of depositions: Lease made by the Crown to plaintiffs for 14 years of the farm of the customs, subsidies, and imposts of French and Rhenish wines, to commence Michaelmas, 1607. "Questioning" of such lease, and sequestration of profits on the wines by the Crown into the hands of Sir John Sucklin and Thomas Bennett, alderman of London, deceased, late husband of Dorothy, defendant. Composition of suit, and mediation of the Earls of Suffolk and Duke of Somerset and Sir Arthur Ingram, kt [Sir George Wright, kt, deceased, is mentioned].
