Description

Short title: Smaley v Bailiffs of Derby.

Plaintiff(s): Edward Smaley, Thomas Fox, John Dalby, Robert Bowley, Thomas Bancroft, Richard Whiniard, John Oliver, Thomas Gilbert, and others, the tenants of the duchy of Lancaster, in the manors or lordships of Castle Donington, Melbourne, and Melborn Holme (Leicester and Derby).

Defendant(s): The bailiffs and burgesses of the town of Derby, William Turner and William Potter, and Samuel Parker, late bailiffs of said town.

Subject of depositions: Town and manor of Derby. Whether the inhabitants of the towns of Castle Donington and Melborn Holme have been customarily exempt from the payment of all manner of tolls, piccage in fairs and markets in Derby, Nottingham, Lenton Fair, Ashby, Loughboro'. Jurisdiction of bailiffs. Privileges of duchy. Tenants. Customs of manors of Donington, Derby as regards payment of toll.
