Description

Short title: Fortescue v Bishop of Gloucester.

Plaintiff(s): Sir Francis Fortescue, kt.

Defendant(s): Miles Bishop of Gloucester and the Dean and Chapter, Thomas Dennys, John Jones, William Evans, Lewis Roberts.

Subject of depositions: Manors of Barnewood, Longford Ablodes, Upton, and Wotton (county of city of Gloucester), lands called Barton Abbots, late of Sir John Fortescue, deceased, parcel of the late abbey of St Peters in Gloucester, lands in the parish of St Mary de Loade, Ramstorn, Senbridge, Insworth, etc. (county of city of Gloucester). Touching also the erection of the bishopric of Gloucester. Metes and bounds of such lands. Value. Survey. [A grant made by Phillip and Mary to Lady Fortescue (plaintiff's grandmother), Sir Anthony Kingston, deceased, after him Lord Chandeys and Jerome Barnard, and after them Lord Cobham, lords of Upton Manor; the possessions of Edward Richd. and Thomas Stevens; grant of manor of Upton St Leonards by James I, to Walter Pye and William Beale, to the use of William Lord Compton, at a reserved rent of £49 2s 9d and tithes of the rectory of St Hurst, and of the manor of Wellington's Court, are mentioned].
