Description

Short title: Harmar v White.

Plaintiff(s): John Harmar, DD, warden of St Mary's College of Winchester, near Winchester, and the scholars, clerks of same college.

Defendant(s): John White.

Subject of depositions: Parsonages and parishes of Wymering and Wansted, Portsea and Portsmouth, the manor of Stubbington, and the tything orhamlet of Hilsey. Doth the hamlet lye within the island of Portsea, Portsmouth, and Portsbridge; and did it belong to the priory of Southwick? Were the foregoing, on dissolution of the abbeys, granted to St Mary's College? Was said tything member of the parsonages? Have the tithes of corn and grain of Hilsey been enjoyed by the College as long as the vicars of Wymmering have had the lesser tithes? Perambulations of, Wymering. Grant by priory aforesaid of tithes of Hilsey to - Carpenter. Survey. [John White, grandfather of defendant, and Edward White his father, Henry Bickley, Thomas Carpenter, John Carpenter, Lord Fitzwaters, Thomas Bickley, - Brown, John and Francis Smyth, - Gardner, - Wells, - Kensall, - Shield, have been farmers of the manor. Southsea Castle, hundred of Portsdown, Simon Blackman, and Thomas Cooke, are mentioned].
