Description

Short title: Eyre v Coote.

Plaintiff(s): Robert Eyre.

Defendant(s): Sir Nicholas Coote.

Subject of depositions: Towns of Blithe and Barmebye, and His Majesty's tenement in Barme-bye called "The Hall" and three oxgangs of land belonging. Was plaintiff ancient tenant of same as also of toll passage and profits of court in Blithe? It is stated that the tenants of Tickhill refuse to pay toll and passage in Blith as being tenants of the duchy of Lancaster, and the bailiff of Tickhill accompanied by them, did about 1604, come to the market cross at Blithe, and proclaim a writing under the duchy seal of the freedom and privilege of the duchy tenants in the town soke and fee of Tickhill, The merchants and freemen of London have bought and transported lead from Derbyshire through Blithe to Bawtrey, and have passed toll free by reason of their freedom in London. Most of the towns in Yorkshire about Blithe are duchy, and those in Notts are most of them within Basset Lawe; another fee belonging to the town of Tickhill, and other towns in Nottinghamshire are of the bailiwick of Wheatley and Gringley, being parcel of Tickhill.
