Description

Short title: Society of the Mineral v Steere.

Plaintiff(s): Society of the Mineral and Battery Works of London.

Defendant(s): Thomas Steere, Robert Hunte, John Whitson, William Fray, Isaak Meyres, Lewis Jones, Evan Jenkins, John Powell, Rowland Howgate, James Hunte.

Subject of depositions: Introduction into England of Christopher Shutes, a German, by William Humfrey, saymaster of the Mint, in the Tower of London, Shutes being a cunning workman, especially in composing mixed metall, commonly called "Latton" and in preparing it for manufacture. Also touching the complainant's wire works at Tintern (Monmouthshire), and the defendants enticing their workmen away to their (defendant's) wire works lately erected at Chilworth (Surrey), propelled by water, and first invented by Humfrey and Shutes. Survey. [Sir Richard Martin and Richard Harbury, farmers of Tintern Works, are mentioned].
