Description

Short title: Saunderson v Wickliffe.

Plaintiff(s): Henry Saunderson, Her Majesty searcher of the port of Newcastle-on-Tyne.

Defendant(s): William Wickliffe (deputy captain of Tynmouth Castle), George Whitehead, master gunner of the castle.

Subject of depositions: Port of Newcastle-on-Tyne and "ye North Sheiles" and the castle of Tynmouth.Touching a seizure made by plaintiff" to Her Majesty's use "of ordinance shipped in a ship called the Rose of London, to be transported contrary to the laws, and so forfeited." Alleged interference of defendants (deputies to the Earl of Northumberland) with such seizure. Touching the extent and jurisdiction of the port. Right of ferry and the liberties of the castle of Tynmouth. Metes and bounds. [The monastery of Tynmouth, a grant by Queen Elizabeth to Henry Percy, kt, and Henry Percy "then his son, and now Earl of Northumberland" of the office of "keeper and captain" of the castle, Sir Francis Leake, kt, and Sir Thomas Hilton, kt, late captains and keepers of the castle, and Dudley Swan, deputy searcher to plaintiff, are mentioned].
