Description

Short title: Morecombe v Ley.

Plaintiff(s): William Morecombe.

Defendant(s): Roger Ley, John Seller.

Subject of depositions: Impost of Spanish and French wines brought into England, particularly into the port of Barnstaple (Devon), granted by Queen Elizabeth to Robert late Earl of Leicester, and grant by him to William Newce and Robert Kitchen, of Bristol of the "custom, subsidy, and impost of all Spanish wines brought into "the ports of Bristol, Bridgwater, Exeter, and Barnstaple" and granted by them to John Dyer and Henry Hull; also grant of the impost by Queen Elizabeth, by Letters Patent, to Sir Christopher Hatton, knight, Chancellor of England, and grant by Sir Christopher to Peter Houghton. Amount of duty paid on such wines.
