Description

Short title: Catesby v Bainbrigg.

Plaintiff(s): Thomas Catesby.

Defendant(s): Cuthbert Bainbrigg, Thomas Bainbrigg, John Pinckney.

Subject of depositions: Right and title to a cottage in Egleston, said to have been a sanctuary ( "with an iron cross standing upon the end in token that it belonged to a religious house ") (Durham), and land belonging called "Palmer's Holme" formerly occupied by George Bainbrigg, of Ettersgill, and Christopher Pinckney, and John Cotesfurth; whether the premises were formerly in the possession of Sir George Bowes, kt, and Sir Ralph Bowes, kt, and parcel of Stretlam Castle (Durham), parcel of the monastery of Mountgrace (Yorkshire), or of the abbey of Eggleston (Durham). [The names and possessions of Francis Tunstall, late of Skargill (Yorkshire), Jennet Pinckney, Henry Kirkby, Robert Bowes (brother of Sir George), and Sir William Bowes are mentioned].
