Defendant(s): John Bostock, captain of Her Majesty's ship called The Crane.
Subject of depositions: "The taking of certain half-clothes and other merchandizes out of a bark called `The Merlin of Barstaple,' being in the high seas, whereof complaint being made to the Lords of Her Majesty's Privy Counsell, it was ordered that the said Bostock should be bound in this Court with sufficient suerties to answer such goods as should be proved by the said Prowse, and others, to be by the said Bostock unlawfully taken as aforesaid." [i.e. not being contraband].
