Politics and government: continued question of purchase of a newspaper; J.R. cannot advise his brother, the Duke of Bedford, to subscribe; he favours appointment of an editor of the Daily News "whocould be trusted" (fs. 21-4); he considers that "..... there is now no respectable liberal paper" (fs. 197-8). Correspondence of W. W. Clarke (the intermediary), the Dean of Bristol (the initiator) and Joseph Parkes, Edward Ellice and the Duke of Bedford (objectors).
