Politics and government: question of J.R's leadership of liberal party coalition; Lord Aberdeen's views on "sinking the title of whig" (fs. 44-5); Lord Minto is against J.R's alignment with the liberals "..... in opposition you will recover your individuality" (fs. 48-9) and he advises J.R. not to insist on first place in a coalition (fs. 176-7); guidance from the Duke of Bedford "..... the complaint is that you were not sufficiently Prime Minister" (fs. 30-3). J.R's "explicit statement" of his political views (fs. 198-9); he receives freedom of Perth and his speech there (Sept. 24) is acclaimed; his views on the ballot ".....
