VOL. 5G Summary of Contents. Political and administrative correspondence relating mainly to Irish legislation. Politics and government: protection and free trade; threat to agriculture from Canadian wheat imports; export of wheat to France; distillationfrom sugar. Penal reform: alternatives to transportation. Alternative site for Duke of Wellington's statue. Cleaning of National Gallery pictures: fears of damage. Correspondence: Lord Morpeth; Charles Wood; Lord Monteagle giving views of Sir Charles Eastlake. Ireland: relief employment: proposed remedies against abuse; extension of relief to aged and infirm subject to workhouse tests. Distress and starvation in Donegal and Ennis. Emigration: costs and funding from taxation; territories to make provision for emigrants on landing. Problems of shipping corn from America.
