Ireland: famine and unrest; extra regiments sent; the "sullen desperation" of the peasantry. Speculation on causes of potato disease. Relief works: abuse. Railways, roads and fisheries; poor houses to admit children. Corn imports from America. References to past and future legislation: drainage; public works; waste lands; poor employment; rateable property; ejectment; coroners; prohibition and mandamus. Correspondence of J.R. and Lord Bessborough: they disagree on extension of relief to private land and works: Lord Bessborough must open his own letters.
