Faculty to Thomas [Wolsey,] cardinal priest of St. Cecilia, and Laurence [Campegio,] cardinal priest of St. Mary in Transtiberim, papal legates de latere in England, to inquire if the dignity of abbot has been suppressed in any monasteries in that kingdom and their churches erected into cathedrals, and whether it is expedient to increase the number of cathedral churches, and, if they see fit, to suppress such dignity in whatever monasteries they think proper, and to erect their churches into cathedrals.
