Description

Letters testifying that it was with the pope's licence that the envoys and proctors of Edward [I.] referred to the pope in his private capacity as arbitrator the dispute between the kings of France and England in the absence of Adolphus, king of the Romans, although Edward had undertaken not to make peace with the king of France without him. Tanquam universalis . . . St. Peter's, Rome. 2 Kal. Jul., 4 Boniface VIII.
