Description

Patent rolls containing enrolments of letters and writs of a special and uniform character.

These include letters of protection and safe-conduct granted to persons going to the wars in Scotland and elsewhere on the king's service; general and special pardons; grants of houses belonging to Jews, 1290-1292; letters patent to merchants for allowances on wool; appointments of mayors and constables of the staple; licences to transport wool; orders and proclamations relating to the business of the staple generally; warrants for denizations; commissions of the peace; commissions of bankruptcy; and perambulations of forests.
