Description

Correspondence, Original - Secretary of State: Correspondence received from Offices (Government departments and other organisations) and Individuals on subjects concerning British Honduras. Correspondents and subjects are as follows: Offices:

  • Crown Agents (revised edition of the laws, paddle tugboat, the issue of a loan of £9,000 under Ordinance 1 of 1887, draft of the railway contract, proposed land grant railway, proposed railway and advertisement inviting tenders);
  • Board of Trade (Merchandise Marks Ordinance);
  • Treasury (payment of army pensioners resident in British Honduras, regulation of the currency, military contribution and the payment of interest, payment of army pensions, military contribution and the cancellation of arrears, contract for mail service, the 'currency question');
  • Foreign Office (Mexican boundary, proposed railway, alleged encroachments in Guatemalan territory, proposed railway, sale of arms to 'Indians', treatment of 'Kroomen' recruited at Axim for service in Honduras, visit of Mr J B Peck to Belize, locking up of a United States citizen at Puerta Gorda, 'Kroomen' engaged for service in Honduras, sale of arms to Santa Cruz Indians, imprisonment of Mr Copeland at Puerta Gorda, bills of health issued by the Vice Consul at Livingston, proposed railway and negotiations with Guatemala, collection of guano on the Chinchorras Islands, proposed railway, parcel post with the United States, memorandum on the Guatemala boundary, supply of arms and ammunition to Indians, Mexican protest against the designation of British Honduras as a British possession, conveyance of passengers by fruit vessels, Mexico-Guatemalan boundary, Yeaiche Indians and General Tamay's behaviour, forwarding of correspondence between Santa Cruz Indians and the Mexican government, commercial treaty with Guatemala, proposed Nicaraguan canal, relations between the Mexican government and the Santa Cruz Indians, enlistment of a French citizen in the constabulary, railway from Belize to the western frontier, survey of Blue Creek, railway from Belize to Guatemala, movements of Otto Wien, Guatemala boundary and road questions);
  • War Office (War Department property and buildings at Belize, payment of army pensions in British Honduras, transfer of military stores to the colonial government);
  • Colonial Defence Committee (design for blockhouse for frontier defence);
  • Honduras and Central America Steamship Company (renewal of the mail contract with invitation for tenders);
  • Colonial Office (land privileges of naval and military officers, advertisement of the sales of land in the colonial newspapers);
  • General Post Office (arrangements for the despatch of mails).
