Description

Correspondence, Original - Secretary of State: Correspondence from Miscellaneous Offices and Individuals on matters relating to British Honduras. Correspondents and subjects are as follows: Offices:

  • Admiralty (movements of the filibuster steamer City of Mexico, proceedings of HMS Goshawk);
  • Crown Agents (canal improvements at Belize, revised edition of the laws);
  • Treasury (withdrawal of the Imperial Troops, revaluation of salaries);
  • Foreign Office (Mexico-Guatemala boundary and commission, movements of the steamer City of Mexico, ex-President Soto's filibustering expedition against Honduras, capture of City of Mexico by the United States ship Galena, desire of the Frenchmen to become British subjects, boundaries between Guatemala, British Honduras and Mexico, disorders committed by Santa Cruz Indians in Yucatan, commercial treaty with Honduras, imprisonment of British subjects by Mexican authorities, proceedings of Mexican gunboat Indipendencia, British Honduras sales of arms to the Santa Cruz 'Indians' and its bearing on the Mexican boundary question, Guatemala boundary and position of the Ycaiche 'Indians', nationality and treatment of British speaking 'natives' of Bay Island, arrest of certain British subjects in Yucatan, request of the United States Government for the extradition of Charles Kinnear, British subjects imprisoned at Merida);
  • War Office (proposed withdrawal of imperial troops, supply of arms and ammunition for the police force, military import duty allowance ordinance, summoning of soldiers as witnesses, ordinance to provide for the organisation of the new Police Force, cost of transferring troops from Belize to Corasol, right of way through the enclose of Freetown barracks);
  • Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (palm stems);
  • Belize Estate and Produce Company (appointment of Mr Goodman as Chief Justice).

  • Lieutenant Arthur E Kershaw (Inspectorship of Honduras Constabulary);
  • W M Sheriff (action against him threatened by Mr Dillet);
  • Benjamin Travers (application for transfer and promotion, application for the Governorship of the Falkland).
