Description

Correspondence, Original - Secretary of State: Letters from various government offices (departments), other organisations and individuals most of which relate to the despatches sent from the governor in CO 123/143, CO 123/144, and CO 123/145. Correspondents and subjects covered are as follows: Offices:

  • Admiralty (sailing orders given by the Commodore at Jamaica to HMS Sphinx; ordinance regarding assets of persons defecting from navy);
  • Agent (loans raised by government under Immigration Loan Act; immigration certificates; census forms; packet service between Belize and Kingston);
  • Privy Council Office (order in council);
  • Board of Trade (health of crews - mud used to ballast vessels; act relating to import and export duties, dues and taxes; ordinance relating to re-admission of goods that have already paid duty in the colony);
  • India Office (seeds of mahogany and logwood);
  • Treasury (tender for service between Belize and New Orleans; contracts for the conveyance of mails between British Honduras and New Orleans; act relating to import and export duties, dues and taxes; contribution towards expense of a packet service);
  • Foreign Office (petition from group of planters regarding port of New Orleans; asks for fate of Italian subject called Macario Morandini Batacchi; request of British Consular Agent at Truxillo regarding shipment of arms; request of Vice Consul at Omoa for vessel of war to protect British interests; palm oil; banishment ordinance and proposed deportation ordinance - British Honduras and St Lucia; Guatemalan Consul at Belize appointed; information from Minister at Brussels respecting E Bertrand; project of union between Honduras and Salvador; leave of absence to Lieutenant Governor of British Honduras; transfer of parts of St George's Cay from government of British Honduras to the War Department; military debt; ordinance for contribution towards maintenance of additional company of foot soldiers; medical resignation and appointment);
  • Land Board (need for qualified assistant with Crown Surveyor; petition of Crown Surveyor; proposed introduction of immigrants from New Orleans to Honduras; management of Crown lands; reconstruction of the Crown Surveyor's Department; concession to a company of an exclusive right to collect and export cohoun nuts from Crown lands);
  • General Post Office (payment for the British Honduras mail service);
